half of our Model UN team is greek. the sorority GPA average is higher than the overall GPA.
the first greek letter org was for academic achievement and honors. every NPC sorority has a scholarship/academic team.one of the most foolish things I’ve seen in a bit.
i’m so sick of people like this. I work my ass off and I may not get the best grades, but I’m also the first person in my family to go to a university, and I am graduating a semester early. I do the same exact things non-greeks do, go to class, I used to be on the dance team, I’ve held part time jobs, and I am a staff member of an award winning college newspaper. being able to do all that and contribute to my community through volunteering with my chapter and fulfill all necessary duties as defined by my greek organization doesn’t exactly sound like “defiling everything higher education stands for.”
“SuperSmarkKids” would actually realize that the Greek System as a whole has an entire award system called “Strive for Pi” which awards those of us who get GPA’s of 3.14 or higher. Derp. And the people that I know who have gotten awarded by Order of Omega’s Strive for Pi program are some of the most active people in the chapter, and on campus. We make higher education look good.
This isn’t to say that non-Greeks don’t make higher education look good, because they do. But things like this are the reason why the Week of Welcome t-shirts that all the NPC sororities had say “BREAK THE STEREOTYPE”, something we are still trying to do.
